Precalculus is the fourth year in a college-bound sequence of mathematics. This course combines the study of advanced algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and some introductory calculus topics. A graphing calculator is used to extend understanding of mathematics and its applications. Other topics may include vector and parametric equations, polar equations, matrices, and conic sections.

(If you're looking for a "slack" class, this isn't it.)
SUPPLIES: Bring these EVERY day!
Pencils 3 – ring binder and paper
Red pen Graphing calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84 recommended)
ATTENDANCE:
This is a college-preparatory class, so if you're not here, you're losing out on important material. If you absolutely must miss class, please get work in advance, if possible or get caught up as quickly as you can. As you know, math is a class that builds on what was previously learned. It's hard to build on a foundation that's not there! Tardiness and unexcused absences are unacceptable and will be dealt with individually.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR:
Please respect yourself, your peers, and the instructor.
Please be in class on time mentally and physically ready.
Please ask questions, when necessary. Everyone learns when questions are asked, so please ask!!!
As Covid-19 continues to be part of our lives, please recognize social distancing as much as possible.
TECHNOLOGY USE
Cell phones/smart watches may be used for academic purposes only and at teacher discretion. Students using phones for gaming, texting, social media or other non-academic purposes may result in loss of phone in class. Repeated offenses will result in a discussion with principal and/or parents.
*Note: ALL phones/smart watches will be turned into teacher during exams to prevent the sharing of information.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Homework (about 30-45 minutes) will be assigned, corrected, and recorded almost daily. Homework will be scored according to this rubric:
2: all problems completed, corrected in red with score at top
1: at least half of the problems completed and/or not fully corrected
0: less than half the problems completed
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
ASSESSMENTS/RETAKES:
Students will test by topic approximately every week and a half to two weeks. One retake will be allowed per quarter and will require a corrective loop and will be given during class time. The corrective loop will require additional instruction/work to help prepare for the retake opportunity. Students missing significant amounts of homework will not be granted the retake opportunity.
Students will have two days to make up a missed exam. If they cannot make it up in that time period, they will take the retake version only.
GRADING:
At the end of each quarter, scores will be weighted as follows:
Summative Assessments 80% Formative/Homework 20%
A comprehensive exam will be given at the end of each semester, with grades determined as follows:
Quarter 1 45% Quarter 2 45% Semester 1 Exam 10%
Quarter 3 45% Quarter 4 45% Semester 2 Exam 10%
EXTRA HELP:
A schedule for after-school help will be available after I have identified student needs. Help may also be available during a zoom meeting after school, if set up in advance. Please let me know individually if/when you would like this. I may also be available before school for help when scheduled in advance. Please know that I am here to help you.
FINAL WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE TEACHER:
"To do less than your best is to sacrifice the gift!"
